Not Everything You Share Needs to Stay Forever

Think about the last few things you shared online: a meeting address, a Wi-Fi instruction, a one-time screenshot, a short document, or a quick snippet of code.

Most of that information probably had a very short purpose.

Once the recipient copied the address, downloaded the file, or finished reading the note, the information may no longer have been needed.

Yet it can remain inside chat histories, email inboxes, download folders, or cloud storage long after its original purpose is gone.

Temporary Does Not Mean Unprotected

A note might only be relevant for ten minutes, but it can still contain sensitive information.

One-Time Retrieval

One-time retrieval is useful when the recipient only needs one opportunity to retrieve the content.

The encrypted content is consumed when its first retrieval begins.

Because decryption happens inside the recipient’s browser, Co-Pas cannot determine whether client-side decryption succeeds.

An incomplete link, incorrect key, interrupted connection, or browser failure may therefore make one-time content unavailable.

One-time retrieval limits additional access from Co-Pas. It cannot prevent the first recipient from copying, saving, photographing, or redistributing the decrypted content. Only share with people you trust.

Before You Share Something

A useful question to ask is:

How long does this information really need to remain available?

If the answer is “only until the other person receives it,” permanent chat history or cloud storage may be unnecessary.

Before sharing, consider these questions:

  • Does the recipient need the entire file?
  • Can unnecessary details be removed?
  • Does the filename reveal private information?
  • Is the complete link being sent through a trusted channel?
  • Should the text paste use password protection?
  • Does the recipient have enough time to open the link?
  • What could happen if the link is forwarded?
  • Does the recipient understand that the content will expire?

These checks take only a few moments, but they can reduce unnecessary exposure.
